Weather Update: IMD said parts of Maharashtra could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated places could also receive extremely heavy downpours.
IMD Weather Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a 'red alert' for north Konkan, north-central Maharashtra, east and west Vidarbha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the regions. Relief from rain is likely after Friday (August 12). Various parts of Maharashtra have been witnessing heavy showers since Sunday and the IMD said the heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the state.
The IMD has also issued an 'orange alert' for Marathwada, south-central Maharashtra and south Konkan. IMD said parts of the state could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated places could also receive extremely heavy downpours.
Mumbai Weather Update
A day after IMD issued an 'orange' alert for Mumbai, heavy rainfall along with strong winds lashed the city and its suburbs on Tuesday morning. The overnight rain has led to the inundation of low-lying areas.
The local trains and bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were running with a delay of 5 to 15 minutes, as per news agency PTI. According to civic officials, the city could face water-logging issues if heavy rain continues. A high tide of 4.03 meters was also recorded at 9.54 am today.

As per IMD, intense to very intense rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely at isolated places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Palghar till 10 am today. Orange alert for Mumbai & Thane today pic.twitter.com/znzyjw1hdQ
The city recorded 51.35 mm of rain in the 24-hour period till 8 am on Tuesday. The eastern and western suburbs received 76.18 mm and 97.11 mm of rainfall respectively during the same period.
The city started witnessing heavy rains from Monday midnight, and the intensity increased early Tuesday morning with strong winds.
Some low-lying areas like the Andheri subway were submerged, forcing authorities to divert the traffic through alternate routes.
The MeT office has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs with a possibility of very heavy to extremely showers at isolated places in the next 24 hours.
