Maharashtra Unlock: Covid Curbs Relaxed In 25 Districts; Gyms, Malls & Film Shooting Allowed

Shops in all districts will now be open by 8 pm instead of 4 pm and by 3 pm on Saturday. Mumbai is yet to take a decision on allowing the common man to travel in local trains.

Mumbai: Witnessing significant improvement in Covid situation in the state, the Maharashtra government has further relaxed coronavirus restrictions in 25 districts with low infection rates.

According to the revised rules, the shopping malls have been allowed to operate in these 25 districts, including Mumbai. The government order says that all government and private offices will also work with full capacity. The state government also increased the opening time of the shops in these districts. 

Shops in all these districts will now be open by 8 pm instead of 4 pm and by 3 pm on Saturday. The order said shops of non-essential commodities will remain closed on Sunday. The Maharashtra government has allowed the opening and operation of shopping malls as per the new guidelines.

The order says that these exemptions will come into effect from Tuesday morning (from today).

The state government did not take any decision on allowing the common man to travel in local trains in Mumbai.

Speaking to reporters, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said there would be no relaxations for the state's remaining 11 districts that have positivity and growth rates more than the state average.

Covid-19 Cases in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, 4,869 new Covid-19 patients were reported on Monday while 90 patients died. According to the state health department, the total number of infected people in the state increased to 63,15,063 after the new cases, while the number of people who lost their lives due to the epidemic increased to 1,33,038.

According to the department, 61,03,325 patients have recovered from the infection in the state so far while 75,303 patients are currently under treatment. The state has a healthy rate of 96.65 percent and a mortality rate of 2.1 per cent.
