BJP Set To Stake Claim To Form Govt In Maharashtra With Fadnavis As CM — List Of Probable Cabinet Ministers

Devendar Fadnavis will take oath as the next Chief Minister of the state while Shinde will be be appointed as the Deputy CM. 

New Delhi: After Uddhav Thackeray's resignation from the post of Maharashtra chief minister on Wednesday evening, Bhartiya Janta Party is all set to stake claim for formation of a new government in the state. Devendar Fadnavis will take oath as the next Chief Minister of the state while Shinde will be be appointed as the Deputy CM, sources told ABP. 

Along with Fadnavis, BJP quota state president Chandrakat Dada Patil, senior leaders Sudhir Mungantiwar, Girish Mahajan, former Mumbai Mahajan president Ashish Shelar, Praveen Darekar, big backward leaders Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Vijaykumar Deshmukh, Ganesh Naik, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar, Sanjay Kute, Ravindra Chavan, Dr. Ashok Uikey, Suresh Khade, Jaykumar Rawal, Atul Save, Devyani Farande, Randhir Savarkar and Madhuri Misal may get the post of cabinet ministers, sources informed ABP.

According to the Indian Express report, top BJP officials from Maharashtra would meet today to finalise their next step.  "BJP will stake claim for the formation of the new government under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, backed by Eknath Shinde, which comprises 39 rebel MLAs, and Independents," they said. 

Uddhav Thackeray offered his resignation as Maharashtra chief minister to the Governor on Wednesday evening. He also declared his intention to resign from the State Legislative Council.

Following Thackeray's departure, the floor test is no longer required. The Governor is now anticipated to ask BJP Leader of Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadanavis to establish the new Maharashtra government.

According to the Times of India, Fadnavis is poised to run for a third term as Maharashtra chief minister, with Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde likely to be appointed as deputy chief minister.

Fadnavis stated that his party is laying a claim for the establishment of a government in Maharashtra.

The BJP has 106 MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly, which has 287 members (the overall strength of 288 was reduced after the death of a Sena MLA last month). Before the Sena rebellion, the MVA had 152 members: Sena (55), NCP (53), and Congress (44). The remaining 29 are made up of smaller parties and independents known as the Others.
