Maharashtra Congress Senior Leader Gurudas Kamat Passes Away
Kamat had served as the Minister of State for Home Affairs with an additional charge of Minister of Communications and Information Technology during 2009-2011.
NEW DELHI: Gurudas Kamat, senior Congress leader, passed away in a hospital in Chanakyapuri, Delhi on Wednesday due to a heart attack.
Kamat is survived by his wife Maharookh and a son, Sunil, said a close family friend. An advocate by profession, Kamat was a commerce graduate from R.A. Podar College, Mumbai and had a law degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai. He was a Member of the Parliament for the Mumbai North West constituency of Maharashtra in 2009 and Mumbai North East constituency of Maharashtra in 1984, 1991, 1998 and 2004 He had also served as the Minister of State for Home Affairs with an additional charge of Minister of Communications and Information Technology during 2009 to 2011. In a condolence message, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said "a very dynamic and renowned face of the Congress and a great leader Gurudas Kamat is no more".Senior Congress leader & ex minister from Mumbai Gurudas Kamat no more. Normally hale and hearty, Kamat on Tuesday night tweeted his Bakri Eid greetings to all saying: "Eid Mubarak to all my friends celebrating Eid-Al-Adha. May all your prayers be accepted. May peace, joy and happiness never depart from your lives and homes."Very sad to know that a very dynamic and renowned face of the @INCIndia and a great leader Gurudas Kamat ji is no more.
