How much is the salary of the Chief Justice?

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the country is paid salary by the Law Ministry. At present, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is paid Rs 2.80 lakh per month. Apart from the Chief Justice, the salary of other judges of the Supreme Court is Rs 2.50 lakh per month.

Facilities Given To CJI

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is provided with a variety of facilities in addition to a salary of Rs 2.80 lakh. He is provided accommodation by the government. Other perks include car, security personnel, employees and electricity expenses of their residential accommodation. In addition to all this, the Chief Justice is also given a hospitality allowance of Rs. 45,000. 

When the CJI retires, he/she is also given an annual pension of Rs 16.80 lakh. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has the right and powers to appoint judges and employees. It is on the recommendation of the CJI that High court and Supreme Court judges are appointed.
