Kerala Woman Gets Severe Labour Pain On Bus. Here's What Happened Next: VIDEO

A woman in Kerala started having labour pain in the middle of a bus journey. However, the alert bus driver took quick measures which made the day even more memorable for the woman.

A pregnant woman travelling from Thrissur to Thottilpalam in Kozhikode by bus got the fright of her life when she experienced labour pain midway. However, quick thinking by the bus driver led to the safe delivery of her baby and gave her another reason that made the day even more memorable for her.

The 37-year-old woman from Malappuram was travelling with her husband on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus on Wednesday when the incident happened. Responding to the situation, the bus driver quickly notified the emergency services and turned towards the Amala Hospital in Thrissur.

The woman was in the advanced stage of labour by the time they reached the hospital. Dr Yasir Sulaiman of Amala Hospital said that since the labour had begun by the time the bus reached the hospital, it wasn’t possible to move the woman to the emergency department. So, the medical team had the baby delivered on the bus and severed the umbilical cord right there.

"The initiation of labour pain had already begun. At that point, it was impossible for us to shift her to the emergency department. We had to take out the child and cut the umbilical cord there. We ensured that the baby and the mother were safe. Currently, both are doing well. It was a different day and a new thing for us," Dr Sulaiman said.

They then transferred the baby girl and the mother to the hospital for further care. The hospital officials said that the mother and child were safe and didn’t face any complications at all.

The medical team brought essential equipment onto the bus to ensure a safe delivery.

Visuals shared on social media show the bus stopped at the hospital, with staff members rushing to assist the mother and her newborn inside the vehicle. To allow the doctors and nurses to provide immediate medical attention, fellow passengers deboarded the train.
