Kerala floods: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar donates Rs 10crore from CM relief fund

The deadliest deluge in close to a century has claimed 324 lives, and dealt a severe blow to the scenic state, wrecking its tourism industry, destroying standing crops in thousands of hectares and inflicting huge damage to infrastructure.

New Delhi: As massive floods have paralysed Kerala, by claiming hundreds of lives and leaving any homeless and stranded; Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday extended a big helping hand to the state by donating a sum of Rs 10 crore. This sum has been given out from Chief Minister Relief fund, as declared by Nitish on his Twitter account. In a letter written by Nitish Kumar to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, he wrote that “I am deeply distressed and saddened by the tragic loss of lives and large scale damage done to the properties because of heavy flood triggered by continuous rain in Kerala. I convey heartfelt condolences to all the victims and their families of Bihar”. “No one knows other than the people of Bihar about the miseries caused by the natural calamities during flood, I am sending a small contribution of Rs 10crore from my Chief Minister Relief Fund, for relief and rehabilitation of work in flood affected areas” he added. He further said that “I hope that under your guidance and leadership, people of Kerala will recover soon from the losses they have suffered. I am confident that the strength and resilience of the people of Kerala will carry the state through this catastrophe”. Kerala has been severely hit by monsoon rains and rivers and dam reservoirs are overflowing, inundating a large part of the southern state. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the area on Saturday along with state CM, governor and Union Tourism Minister.
