BJP Alleges Congress Govt Scrapping 'Goshala' Scheme, Karnataka Minister Denies Claims

After a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil addressed the media, emphasising the government's commitment to the 'Goshala' project, a scheme to protect cows.

The BJP in Karnataka has accused the Congress government of discontinuing the 'Goshala' project, a scheme initiated during the previous BJP regime to protect cows. The project sanctioned 35 Goshalas (cowsheds) across the state. However, the Congress government has refuted these allegations, stating that there is no decision to discontinue the scheme.

After a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil addressed the media, emphasising the government's commitment to the project. He said that the cabinet has granted administrative approval to strengthen the existing 14 Goshalas. Patil further explained that of the 35 proposed Goshalas, work on 14 has been completed.

Previously, the government had decided to improve the existing gaushalas instead of building new ones in the state.

However, the BJP accused the Congress government of abandoning the initiative. The saffron party has claimed that the scheme's progress is being neglected undermining efforts to protect cattle in the state.

In a post on 'X', the BJP said, as per PTI, "Protecting cows is like protecting the culture of this land. The stand of the Congress government, which has abandoned the decision of our previous @BJP4Karnataka government, which had launched a project to open a Goshalas in all the districts."

"The claim that cows are not coming to Goshala is merely an excuse. If there was genuine intent, these shelters would already be functioning effectively. But how can we expect a Congress government, which constantly aligns with those favoring beef consumption, to remain committed to saving and nurturing Goshala? This decision is highly condemnable," Karnataka BJP chief Vijayendra said.
