Kanhaiya detained for protesting against 'police brutality' on students in Bihar
New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar was on Friday detained by the Delhi Police at Bihar Bhawan for protesting against "police brutality on students".
Kanhaiya, along with JNU students, were demanding the suspension of Patna Arts College principal Chandrabhushan Srivastav and the cancellation of the ongoing examination.
The students were protesting against the crackdown on the college students by the Patna Police.
"The condition of education in Bihar is continuously deteriorating. The government is not taking the demands of students regarding quality education seriously. And, those who are fighting for this significant and relevant cause, are facing violence and imprisonment," Kanhaiya said in a statement.
"Let's stand with the students of the Patna University," he added.
Several clashes reportedly broke out between activists of the All India Students Federation (AISF) and the JD(U) student wing over an exam schedule.
As per reports, AISF wanted the exams to be postponed and the JD (U) student wing were against it.
