Kailash Mansarovar Yatra To Begin After 5 Years, Application Window Opens: Check How To Apply

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will resume from June 30 after a hiatus of five years.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will begin this year after a hiatus of five years on June 30. The pilgrimage will continue till August for which the application window has been opened, said the Ministry of External Affairs which oversees the yatra.

A total of 15 batches comprising 750 people will visit the pilgrim site of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar located in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Five batches with 50 pilgrims each will travel through Uttarakhand crossing over at Lipulekh Pass while 10 batches of 50 yatris each will go through Sikkim, crossing over Nathu La Pass, the MEA said.

Interested pilgrims can visit kmy.gov.in to apply for the yatra.

The Yatris will be selected from among applicants through a fair, computer-generated, random and gender-balanced selection process, said the ministry.

Since 2015, the entire process commencing with on-line application till selection of Yatris is a fully computerised process. Therefore, applicants do not need to send letters or fax to seek information, it said.

The feedback options on the website can be used for obtaining information, registering observations or making suggestions for improvement, the ministry added.

The resumption of yatra after five years is seen as a part of bid to mend ties by India and China after the two countries completed the disengagement of troops at the two remaining friction points of Demchok and Depsang under a pact sealed in October last year.
