Justice Markandey Katju questions Mother Teresa's sainthood in Facebook post, faces heat
New Delhi: Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju landed in a fresh controversy on Wednesday, after he took a snipe at Saint Teresa, who was recently named a Roman Catholic saint via his Facebook post. Katju, in his post questioned the sainthood of Teresa, and got slammed in return.
While commenting on her recent canonization Katju said, “'Mother' Teresa was hospitalised in California. It just proves that, the-would-be saint required medical help herself. She is said to have performed miracles, why did she not perform one on herself and get cured?”
He added that, “why did she have to go to California to get medical treatment? It must have cost a lot of money.There are many excellent hospitals in Calcutta. Why did she not get treated there?”
Katju’s post attracted a lot of agony and heat from Saint Teresa’s followers, who replied to his post with furious comments.
One of the Facebook user Debarama said, “Katju Sir is really Jealous of Mother Teresa's treatment at California Hospital or She have committed a big crime for the same. So sad to know Mother Teresa's liberty is being criticised by our Honorable Judge”.
While another user Asmin Bhegra commented saying, “But, what about her works.. we can't even go near to lepers.. forget working with them..!! Go n pick a ragpicker.. Spent your money to feed him.. dress him well.. and say.. be an atheist.. When people are surviving for their life.. She took them and cared. She always been a Hero for the people for whom he took care.. Celebrities like you can't understand.”
