Justice Arumughaswamy Panel Investigating Jayalalithaa's Death Submits Report To Tamil Nadu Govt

The Justice Arumughaswamy Commission, which was formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, delivered its findings to the state government on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
After hearing roughly 150 witnesses, Justice Arumughaswamy, who subsequently talked to media, said the 500-odd page report in English and around 600 pages in Tamil was compiled.

"Only the government can decide whether to publish the report," he stated, adding that all relevant issues were covered in the report and that it was a "satisfying" excursion for him.
Many felt that the panel "worked like a court," he added.
AIADMK top leader O Panneerselvam, Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa and nephew Deepak, physicians, top officials, and AIADMK's C Vijayabaskar (former health minister), M Thambi Durai, C Ponnaiyan, and Manoj Pandian are among those who have testified before the committee.

Deepa and Deepak have expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding their aunt's death. In 2018, V K Sasikala, a confidante of the late Chief Minister, filed an affidavit through her attorney.
The former AIADMK administration established the Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry, which began hearings on November 22, 2017. Justice Arumughaswamy is a retired Madras High Court judge.
Sasikala's affidavit discussed, among other things, the circumstances surrounding Jayalalithaa's hospitalisation. The late Chief Minister was hospitalised for 75 days before her death on December 5, 2016.
During the recent proceedings, physicians from Apollo Hospitals informed a medical board of AIIMS-Delhi specialists on Jayalalithaa's treatment through video-conferencing.
The AIIMS panel participated virtually in the proceedings to assist the Commission in handling medical concerns as directed by the Supreme Court.
