Delhi Police File FIR Against JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, 19 Others

The police registered the FIR on January 5. In the complaint filed by the JNU administration, the University alleged that the accused were involved in physical violence and pushed the women guards, verbally abused them and threatened them of dire consequences if they opened the lock of university's communication and information (CIS) office.

New Delhi: FIR against JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others have been filed by the Delhi Police for allegedly attacking security guards and vandalising the server room of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on January 4. The police registered the FIR on January 5. In the complaint filed by the JNU administration, the University alleged that the accused were involved in physical violence and pushed the women guards, verbally abused them and threatened them of dire consequences if they opened the lock of university's communication and information (CIS) office. "They illegally trespassed the University property with the criminal intention to damage the public property. They damaged servers and made it dysfunctional. They also damaged fiber optic power supplies and broke the biometric systems inside the room," the University officials alleged. This incident allegedly occurred a day before Aishe Ghosh, other JNU students and teachers were attacked by a masked mob inside the campus. Watch | JNU case: 3 FIRs registered on commotion outside server room Meanwhile, the police is taking the help of video footage and face recognition system to identify those involved in the violence at the JNU in the national capital on Sunday, government sources said. The violence was perpetrated by a group of masked men at the premises of the prestigious institution. Police is taking the help of video footage as well as face recognition system to identify the culprits, the sources said on Tuesday. The police is also investigating the claim made by a group called Hindu Raksha Dal of being involved in the violence at the university. Police has taken cognisance of the the claim, the sources said. Watch | JNU case: Hindu Raksha Dal claims responsibility for incident Violence broke out at JNU on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in police that conducted a flag march. At least 34 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours. (with inputs from agencies)
