J&K: Two Newly Recruited Militants Surrender Before Forces In Sopore, 'Parents Convinced Their Sons To Lay Weapons'

Two militants who were newly recruited, surrendered in front of the forces after parents were called to convince them.

Two newly recruited militants of Albadr Mujahideen surrendered before the security forces in the Tujjar-Shalpora area of the Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today. Police said that two local militants got trapped in a village following the families of the duo were called to persuade them to surrender before the security forces. “The duo accepted the surrender offer and laid their arms,” they said. Inspector-General of Police, Vijay Kumar said that both the trapped militants surrendered before the forces at Tujjar-Shalpora. Col. Abhishek, Commanding officer of the 22 Rashtriya Rifles, whose troops were involved in the encounter said that they were not sure about the identity when the operation was launched, but once it was established that these two were the missing Mehraj and Abid, we contacted the mothers and affected the surrender. He added that the army had promised the families of 4 missing youth in the area that their kin will be brought back safely. We are happy, that we have got them back safely, said col Abhishek.
This is the third surrender of militants during a live encounter. Earlier, two militants had surrendered in Pulwama and Budgam, taking the total number of surrenders to 29 in 2020.
