J&K: Security forces gun down 2 terrorists in Kupwara, search ops underway

Indian Army has responded to the Pakistani firing in adequate measure, the officials said.

New Delhi: As Pakistan speaks of peace and agrees on returning IAF pilot back to India, the neighbouring country is at it again. Pakistan on Thursday violated ceasefire in Kamlakot region of Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. The firing has left one civilian injured. The Indian soldiers are retaliating to Pak firing with full force. Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing towards Indian posts and villages in Kamalkote area of Uri in Baramulla district on Thursday evening, the officials said. They said the intermittent firing continued throughout the night. Indian Army has responded to the Pakistani firing in adequate measure, the officials said. The ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops comes as tensions between India and Pakistan rose following the February 14 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed. Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group claimed responsibility for the attack. Another encounter broke out on Friday between militants and security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, where two terrorists have been gunned down. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Babagund area of Kupwara following information about presence of militants there, the officials said. They said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened firing towards the security forces, who retaliated.
