J&K: LeT divisional commander among 2 terrorists killed in Kulgam encounter

Militant Shakir Ahmad surrendered with arms and ammunition to security forces

SRINAGAR: In a major success for counter-terrorism operation, the security forces on Sunday killed the LeT divisional commander Shakoor Dar in an encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. Army, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF launched a search operation in the area following “specific’ inputs about the presence of militants. As soon as the forces approached the suspected spot, the militants hiding in a residential house opened fire on them. The forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight. Army spokesman confirmed on Twitter that two militants were killed in the gunfight. One millitant was identified as LeT divisional commander Shakoor Dar whereas the other slain militant might be a foreigner, the police said. The third militant, Shakir Ahmad, later surrendered with arms and ammunition to Security forces. He joined the outfit some two months back. Meanwhile, clashes broke out between the security forces and protesters near the site of the gunfight.
