New Delhi: The pilgrimage to the religiously significant Amarnath shrine had to be stalled at Pahalgam due to bad weather conditions.
The second batch of pilgrims has already left for Pahalgam and Baltal. Amid tight security this batch will head for the visit to the shrine.
However, the first batch of nearly 3,000 Amarnath pilgrims, who started from Jammu on Wednesday, reached the twin base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam in Kashmir in the evening. The Yatra had to be paused for the pilgrims at Pahalgam because of bad weather conditions. The place has been receiving incessant rains since last night and as per the predictions of the weather department, the rains may continue for the next 48 hours as well.
The 60-day-long Amarnath Yatra which begins today will end on the day of Raksha Bandhan in Shravan.
The doors of the shrine will open at 9 am in the morning and the first prayers will be offered by the governor and the chairperson of the Amarnath Shrine Board N N Vohra.
So far 1.96 pilgrims have registered themselves for the Yatra and for the first time the vehicles leaving for the journey will have radio frequency tags. Apart from this a motorbike team of CRPF will also be alert.
Nearly forty thousand security forces have been deployed this year.
