“A single-span girder collapsed and a pillar got tilted. The contractor has been asked to rebuild the portion,” Executive Engineer of Giridih's Road Construction Department, Vinay Kumar said, PTI reported.
Although the Executive Engineer did not disclose the cost of the project, PTI cited sources as reporting that the bridge is being constructed at a cost of around Rs 5 crore and it would connect remote villages in Giridih with those in the Jamui district of Bihar. Another engineer noted that the casting on the collapsed girder had been completed only a week ago, and it could have needed at least 28 days to strengthen.
