J&K: Rain Lashes Several Districts, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Blocked Due To Landslide — Top Points

Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district received 10 centimetres of rain till 8:30 am on Monday while Rajouri recorded 5 centimetres of rainfall. 

Heavy rains lashed several districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday triggering landslides at some places. As the southwest monsoon advanced to the northern parts of the country, it brought respite from the scorching heat but has caused landslides in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Updating on the advancement of monsoon in the country, the India Meteorological Department said that the monsoon has covered several states of India. Monsoon would move forward in the next two days, said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. 

On Monday, the weather department stated that the union territory had received a “significant” amount of rainfall till 8:30 am. Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district received 10 centimetres of rain till 8:30 am on Monday while Rajouri recorded 5 centimetres of rainfall.

  • Heavy rains lashed Mehad and Cafeteria Morh in Ramban district triggering landslides. 
  • Landslides in the Ramban district, left commuters stranded as vehicular traffic was blocked on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. 
  • Capital Srinagar also received showers on Monday and the city is predicted to witness thunderstorms with rain on Monday, as per India Meteorological Department. 
  • Long queue of trucks could be seen in Udhampur after the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was blocked due to the landslide triggered by heavy rains in Ramban district. 
  • The traffic police is saying that the road ahead is closed and it is raining. We have been here since 9 o'clock last night. There are around 250-300 trucks here," one of the truck drivers told news agency ANI.
