As the search operations continued to find the missing soldier, Javaid Ahmad Wani, the Jammu and Kashmir Police questioned a dozen people and examined his call details. Wani went missing a couple of days ago from his native Kulgam district while on leave, news agency PTI reported on Monday, citing officials. The soldier is currently posted in the Ladakh region and he was supposed to join work on Sunday. His car was found abandoned at Paranhall.
The officials stated that a dozen of people have been questioned and the call records are being examined as the search operation to locate the missing soldier continues. Wani's father has appealed to those who might have abducted his son to release him alive since he was the only breadwinner of the family.
"I appeal to all the brothers to let him go alive. If he has troubled anyone, I apologise for that. If they want I will get him to quit his job as well," Mohammad Ayoub Wani told reporters on Sunday, as quoted by PTI. Wani said his son had gone out to buy meat on Saturday evening as he was to go back to his place of posting on Sunday.
"He told his brother to drop him at the airport tomorrow (Sunday). Sometime later, we got a call that his car was found abandoned with its doors ajar," the father said, as quoted by PTI. Eyewitnesses claim that there were blood marks in the car but officials have not confirmed or denied it.
In another incident, a Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force personnel along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday in second such incident in a week.
According to officials, the intruder was gunned down by the alert border guards when he ignored the repeated warnings and tried to flee after managing to cross the border fence near Jabowal border outpost in Arnia sector around 1.45 am, as reported by news agency PTI.
Confirming the incident, a BSF spokesman said, "In the intervening night of July 30-July 31 July, the vigilant troops observed suspicious movement across the International Border (IB) in Arnia border area," as quoted by PTI. “An intruder was observed approaching towards the BSF fence and the troops neutralised him and thwarted the infiltration attempt,” he said.
