The officials said that the deceased was working as a cook in a company involved in undertaking construction work in the border area in the Samba sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir: A 26-year-old man was killed in suspected firing along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. The man, identified as Vasudev, was working on a construction project along the border when he was shot in his chest, news agency PTI reported.

Casualty Medical Officer at District Hospital Samba said: "One person was brought to the hospital from the border area of Samba with bullet injuries. He died due to bullet injury. Cause of the bullet injury is being investigated."

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Jammu district's Akhnoor area.

"BSF and police official are looking into matter," the officials told PTI.

The officials said that the he was working as a cook in a company involved in undertaking construction work in the border area in the Samba sector.

"The incident occurred late Friday night in the Regal Border Outpost area and preliminary inquiry suggested that Vasudeva was apparently shot by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on noticing suspicious movement and mistaking him as an intruder from across the border," the officials said.

The report stated that as per his colleagues the incident occurred when he had gone out of his tent to relieve himself.

After being shot, he was immediately rushed to the district hospital in Samba, where he was declared dead by the doctors.

"Senior BSF and police officers visited the scene and further investigation is on," the report quoted the officials as saying.

K. Jandyal, Hospital Medical Officer stated that the patient had been brought to the hospital around 11 PM and his vitals were not responding at that time.

"Every effort was made to revive the patient but he could not be saved," she said, adding "he had a bullet injury in the chest".

The body of the deceased was shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem, PTI reported.
