"Why No FIR Yet Against Delhi Police": Agitated Jamia Students Question VC

New Delhi: Hundreds of Jamia Millia Islamia students gheraoed Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar's office and questioned the administration for dragging its feet in getting an FIR filed against Delhi Police in connection with last month's violence on the campus. The agitating students who are demanding registration of an FIR against Delhi Police have vowed to continue their sit-in until their demands are met. Reaching out to students, Akhtar said "despite repeated attempts, the police are not registering an FIR. We are told the process will begin tomorrow and if required we will approach the court.” While appealing for "calm", she also clarified that she had never issued orders to vacate hostels. The students also want the university to reschedule examinations and ensure security of students. The students had barged into the office premises after breaking the lock on the main gate and raised slogans against the VC. On December 15, the police had without permission entered the library of the varsity and allegedly used force against students who were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Tension has been brewing outside the Jamia University as hundreds of protestors, including women and children, stayed put at the Sarita Vihar-Kalindi Kunj road at Shaheen Bagh, as their movement for withdrawal of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and a proposed pan-India National Register of Citizens (NRC) completed a month today.
