Jallikattu to take place in a day or two says CM O. Panneerselvam, requests to withdraw protest

New Delhi: Amid massive protests and shut down in Tamil Nadu, in regards to demand for Jallikattu, the Chief Minister of the state O. Panneerselvam came forward and appealed to the protesters to “withdraw immediately”, with an assurance that the festival would take place with a day or two.
  • CM O. Panneerselvam on Friday said, “had detailed discussion with constitutional experts regarding amendments to be enacted on Jalikattu law by the state”

  • He also urged the protesters to stop the protests for it is creating a lot of trouble for the state. “We urge protesters to withdraw their protest immediately” said Tamil Nadu CM O. Panneerselvam

  • He added that “TN Govt sent draft of amendment to MHA this morning. I believe draft would be approved in 1-2 days which will pave way for Jalikattu”

  • CM also said that he has put senior officials to work with the centre on Jallikattu. “To take up the draft of the amendment further with the Union Govt, I have deputed senior officials of the state to work with Centre”

  • CM Panneerselvam concluded by assuring that “There are full chances that Jalikattu will be organised within 1-2 days, therefore we urge protesters to withdraw immediately”
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declined to issue the pro-jallikattu central ordinance that chief minister O. Panneerselvam and the protesters had sought. PM Modi's plea was that the matter was sub judice: the apex court is to soon decide on the validity of a 2016 central notification that had allowed jallikattu but which the court had immediately stayed.
