J&K: Two Non-Local Labourers Injured In Grenade Blast In Shopian District

An encounter between the security forces and militants in the Rishipora area of Anantnag left three soldiers and a civilian injured in the cross firing on Friday.

New Delhi: Two non-local labourers were reported injured in a grenade blast that took place in Jammu Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday, said the police as per news agency PTI. 

"Militants lobbed grenades at Aglar Zainapora, resulting in minor injuries to two non locals. Area has been cordoned off," a police spokesman tweeted.

Senior police officials have rushed to the spot, reported the news agency. 

Encounter In Anantnag 

An encounter between the security forces and militants in the Rishipora area of Anantnag left three soldiers and a civilian injured in the cross firing on Friday, said the police, reported the news agency. 

"Encounter has started at Rishipora area of Anantnag. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," a police spokesperson had tweeted.

In an update posted three hours later, the official said, "In the initial exchange of fire, three army personnel and one civilian got injured. All the injured were immediately airlifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment & are stated to be stable. Operation going on."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high level security meeting with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other officials to discuss the security situation in the valley, reported news agency ANI. 

Series of attacks and targeted killings in the valley have sparked protests by the members of Kashmiri Pandit living there — employed under a prime minister's package in 2012 — threatening mass exodus after a government servant, Rahul Bhat was shot dead by terrorists on May 12 in Chadoora area of Budgam district. 

On May 18, terrorists threw a grenade in a wine shop leaving one person deaad who was from Jammu and three others injured in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

A few days later on May 24, policeman Saifullah Qadri was shot dead outside his residence in Srinagar while a television artiste Amreen Bhat was gunned down in Budgam two days later.

On Tuesday, a woman teacher from Samba district of Jammu region was killed in Kulgam district.
