J&K: Pak-Based LeT Terrorist Among Two Militants Gunned Down In Kulgam Encounter, Incriminating Materials Recovered

The encounter broke out after the security forces launched a cordon and search operation there following inputs about the presence of terrorists, PTI reported a police official as saying.

New Delhi: The security forces gunned down two terrorists in an encounter in Cheyan Devsar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday, police said. Both trapped terrorists have been killed in the Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam, adding incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, have been recovered from them, ANI reported Jammu and Kashmir Police as saying. The police said the search is underway, adding further details into the incident are awaited.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said one of the trapped ultras belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit.

The IGP said the LeT terrorist identified as Haider has been active in North Kashmir for more than two years and is involved in several terror crimes.

Meanwhile, two 'hybrid' terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district and arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, police said.

A police official said that a checkpoint was established by the security forces near Wullar Vantage Aragam on Saturday on a specific input regarding movement of terrorists from Bandipora to Srinagar, PTI reported.

The official said that two individuals were observed moving suspiciously in a car while conducting searches of pedestrians and vehicles,

The official added that the suspicious persons on being challenged tried to break the checkpoint and were tactfully apprehended.

The two ‘hybrid’ terrorists have been identified as Abid Ali and Faisal Hassan Parray -- both residents of Herpora Achan Pulwama.
