'It's Kerala, Not Karela': Shashi Tharoor Schools 'Hindi-Speaking Brethren' On Spelling

On Tuesday, Shashi Tharoor sought the attention of 'Hindi-speaking brethren' on using the wrong spelling for his home state Kerala.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is known for his penchant for use of lesser known English words while tweeting.

But, on Tuesday, Tharoor sought the attention of the "Hindi-speaking brethren" on using the wrong spelling for his home state Kerala.

"Attention: some of our Hindi-speaking brethren! Its spelt 'Kerala', not 'Karela'. We are not from Gourd's Own Country," Tharoor tweeted.

Recently, the Thiruvananthapuram MP praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a man of "tremendous vigour and dynamism" following the BJP's impressive victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a man of tremendous vigour and dynamism and has done some things which are very impressive, especially politically. We did not expect him to win with such great margins but he did," Tharoor said while interacting with reporters.

On the Congress's debacle in the polls to five states, Tharoor said the Indian voter has always been capable of throwing up surprises and the BJP would also get to know about it one day.

"The Congress could have done much better in Uttarakhand, and in Goa, we had very good chances of being the single largest party," Tharoor said at the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF).

"But mind you in both the states the number of voters are relatively small, and that perhaps contributed," PTI quoted the MP from Thiruvananthapuram as saying.
