'They Subverted Every Provision Of Constitution': Kapil Sibal On IT Minister's 'Compulsive Critics' Jibe At Oppn
Kapil Sibal has attacked the Centre after IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called opposition "compulsive critics" over the iPhone 'hack' alert issue. Sibal said the government is misusing the system.
iPhone Hack Alert Row: Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday said that the Centre is misusing the system, adding that it has subverted every provision of the Constitution. He said everything the incumbent government has done since it came to power has been "contrary" to the Constitution. Sibal was responding to the "compulsive critics" jibe of Union Minister of Communication, Electronics, & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw at the opposition over the iPhone 'hack' alert.
Several leaders of the opposition on Tuesday received an alert on their iPhone mobile phones that "state-sponsored" attackers could try to compromise their devices. MPs including Mahua Moitra, Shashi Tharoor and Asaduddin Owaisi shared the screenshots of the message on X, formerly Twitter, and alleged that the government was attempting to "snoop" into their mobiles. Later, IT minister Ashiwin Vaishnaw addressed a press briefing asserting that a probe has been ordered. He, however, attacked the opposition by calling them "compulsive critics".

"The government itself has people who are compulsive wrongdoers. Why talk of the opposition? Everything that this government has done since it came to power has been contrary to the Constitution. Actually, they have subverted every provision of the Constitution... People belonging to the BJP, against whom serious cases are pending, are out on bail... This is a complete misuse of the system..." Sibal said while responding to Vaishnaw's remark.
On Tuesday, Apple replied to the row and said it was not possible for them to provide information about what causes them to issue threat notifications, as that may help "state-sponsored attackers adapt their behavior to evade detection in the future".
