Delhi-Goa IndiGo Pilot Said 'PAN PAN PAN' Before Emergency Landing, This Is What It Means

An IndiGo flight 6E 6271 from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday after a reported engine malfunction.

An IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to Goa was forced to make an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday, after the pilot reported a technical fault in one of the engines.

According to an official familiar with the incident, the pilot of flight 6E 6271 issued a ‘Pan-Pan-Pan’ distress signal — a global radio call used to indicate a serious but non-life-threatening issue — after detecting a malfunction in engine number 1 during the flight.

The aircraft, carrying 191 passengers, safely landed in Mumbai at 9:53 PM — two minutes ahead of schedule. All passengers and crew members are reported to be safe. The pilot had alerted Mumbai Air Traffic Control at 9:32 PM and requested a route diversion. Following standard operating procedures, emergency services, including ambulances and fire engines, were placed on standby.

IndiGo Issues Official Statement
In a statement, IndiGo confirmed that flight 6E 6271 was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical issue during its journey from Delhi to Goa. The airline assured that all protocols were followed, and a full technical inspection would be conducted before the aircraft is cleared to fly again.

“We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the professionalism of our pilots and crew for ensuring the safety of all onboard,” the statement added.

Recent Technical Snags in Indian Aviation

This incident comes amid a series of recent technical issues involving Indian carriers:

• SpiceJet Flight from Pune to Delhi (13–14 July 2025): A flight scheduled to depart from Pune to Delhi was cancelled due to a technical fault after reaching the runway for takeoff. Passengers were stuck inside the aircraft for nearly an hour, and the delay extended up to nine hours.
• IndiGo Flight 6E-7295 from Indore to Raipur: Shortly after takeoff, this IndiGo flight experienced a technical issue and had to return to Indore. The plane, carrying 51 passengers, landed safely. Indore Airport Director Vipinkant Seth confirmed that the aircraft had turned back roughly 60 miles into the flight.
