New Delhi: The train anti-collision system "Kavach" developed by the Indian Railways is soon going to make train journeys quick and safe. The indigenously developed train protection system was inspected by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Friday.
The inspection by the railway minister was carried out between Lingampalli – Vikarabad section of Secunderabad Division of the South Central Railway zone.
Two trains, one carrying Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hurtled towards each other but did not collide due to the "Kavach" security system.
Soon after the test, a minute long video was shared by the railway ministry that showed train carrying Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw halting after detecting another train on the same track.

Developed by the Indian Railways, the anti-collision system "Kavach" is SIL-4 certified, which is the highest level of safety certification. The certification means that there's a possibility of only one error in 10,000 years.
The system is designed to automatically bring a train to a halt if another train is detected on the same track within a certain distance.
Some other tests that the system passed were, rear-end collision, loop-line crossing and the auto whistle test.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her Budget presentation in February, had mentioned about the "Kavach" security system as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The ministry plans to bring 2,000 km of rail network under the system.
Kavach has been approved for speeds up to 160 kmph and is already deployed in some on-going loco projects of South Central Railway.
