Indian Envoy Visits Shanghai's Jing'an Temple, Shares Historical Connection With India

Indian Consul General to Shanghai visited Jing'an Temple, a prominent Buddhist temple in China, which has connections to India through its architecture and origin in the Ashoka Stambh.

Consulate General of India to Shanghai, Pratik Mathur visited the Jing'an Temple in the heart of the city on Friday. 

The temple has close links to India, the CGI said, in a post on X adding the Zhengfa Jiuzhu Brahma Block has its origin in India's National Emblem, the Ashoka Stambh. The Jing'an Pagoda is also inspired by the architecture of Bodh Gaya. 

Consulate General Pratik Mathur today "visited the Jing'an Temple located in the heart of Shanghai, a prominent Buddhist temple in China, and an oasis of serenity amidst the metropolitan hustle bustle," the X post read.

"CG offered prayers to the majestic 15-ton Buddha idol cast in silver, and was warmly received by the Abbot Master Ya Yun of the temple, who hails from the Shingon sect which traces its lineage to the great Buddhist masters of India," it added. 

"Dating back to 247 A.D, the temple remains an enduring symbol of the widespread reach of 🇮🇳 Buddhist traditions, and its power to bring diverse peoples together under the umbrella of our shared humanity," said the CGI in the post.
