INDIA Vs BJP To Continue As Parliamentary Meetings Slated To Discuss Floor Strategies Today

A parliamentary party meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is scheduled to be held at 9.30 am on Tuesday to chalk out the strategy for the Monsoon Session of the Lok Sabha.

New Delhi: Both the Opposition alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are slated to hold parliamentary meetings on Tuesday to chalk out the strategy for the floor of the House. The leaders of the newly formed Opposition alliance will meet at the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament on Tuesday to chalk out the strategy, while a parliamentary party meeting of BJP is scheduled to be held at 9.30 am to chalk out the strategy for the Monsoon Session of the Lok Sabha.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Monday as the opposition shouted 'Modi Sarkar Shame Shame', 'PM Modi Jawab Do', and 'Manipur Wants Justice' slogans demanding a statement by the prime minister on the violence in Manipur. Notably, the first two days of the monsoon session last week saw a similar ruckus leading to nearly zero functioning of Parliament. The session will resume today.

The government has said it is ready for a debate, insisting that Home Minister Shah will speak on the issue. The opposition, however, has insisted that a statement be made by the prime minister.

Meanwhile, on Monday, in Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar suspended Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh for the remainder of the monsoon session for “repeatedly violating” the Chair’s directives.

The Chairman first named Sanjay Singh for interrupting the proceedings of the House when it had taken up the Question Hour amid protests by the Opposition over its demand for a statement from Prime Minister on the Manipur violence and a detailed discussion on the issue.

After his suspension, the AAP MP said, “If this House is not for speaking on Manipur violence-like incidents and if they cannot give reply… I would only say that the prime minister is a shameless, coward and cruel ruler with whom we are ready to fight.”

Notably, the monsoon session commenced a day after a video clip purportedly shot on May 4 and showing two women being paraded naked by a mob in a Manipur village went viral, triggering a nationwide outrage.

The Manipur Police have arrested several accused who were seen in the video. The police said a case of abduction, gang rape and murder has been registered at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district against unidentified armed miscreants.
