India Suspends Ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan, Bilawal Bhutto's X Accounts

The development comes a day after the X account of Pakistan's information and broadcasting minister, Attaullah Tarar, was suspended in India.

India on Sunday withheld the accounts of former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on 'X' (formerly Twitter) in India.

The development comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. A day earlier, the X account of Pakistan's information and broadcasting minister, Attaullah Tarar, was suspended in India.

A few days ago he had claimed that Pakistan has "credible intelligence" that India may carry out a military strike against it within 24 to 36 hours in view of the Pahalgam attack.

A screenshot of both Khan and Bhutto's X account showed a message that it was withheld in India due to a legal demand. The profile picture and the cover image of the Pakistani politicians' X account are blank now.

Apart from suspending X accounts of several Pakistani politicians, India has also disabled Instagram accounts of Pakistani actors, including Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan.Their accounts displayed the automated message that they were not available in India because "we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

Earlier this week, India had also banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including those of several Pakistani media houses, for spreading misinformation and communally sensitive and provocative content against India.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's YouTube channel was also blocked in India on Friday.

Amid the simmering tensions, Butto, son of slain former Pakistani PM Benazir Bhutto, had stated that blood would flow in the Indus River if India blocked the waters. He claimed that as per the Indus Waters Treaty, "India has acknowledged that the Indus belongs to Pakistan".

"I would like to stand here in Sukkur by the Indus and tell India that the Indus is ours and the Indus will remain ours, whether water flows in this Indus or their blood," Zardari had stated.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan had called the Pahalgam attack "deeply disturbing and tragic," warning India to act in a responsible manner.
