India Reports 761 New Covid-19 Cases, 12 Deaths In Last 24 Hours. Active Cases Decline

India on Friday recorded a total of 761 fresh COVID-19 infections while 12 people died of the virus in the last 24 hours, as per the latest information of the Union Health Ministry data. As of now, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country came down marginally to 4,334 from 4,423 on Thursday, the data updated at 8 am showed. Of the 12 fresh casualties, five were reported from Kerala, four from Karnataka, two from Maharashtra, and one from Uttar Pradesh, the data stated.
Kerala has the highest number of active cases at 1,249, followed by Karnataka at 1,240, Maharashtra at 914, Tamil Nadu at 190, and Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh at 128 each. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease stands at over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent, the ministry's website stated. As per the website, 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far in the country.
Maha Govt Monitoring Covid Cases In State
On Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the state government was monitoring a close watch on the COVID-19 situation and the health department has been asked to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, reported PTI. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to Sassoon General Hospital here, he said that though the JN.1 variant of coronavirus is not very serious, people are advised to use masks.
"We are taking reports about the cases every day. Civil surgeons and health departments in the state have been issued instructions to undertake precautionary measures to ensure that the number of positive cases does not rise," the deputy chief minister was quoted as saying by PTI.
He also requested people to cooperate by following COVID-appropriate behaviour.
