India Refutes Trump's Claim Of Chat With PM Modi On China

US President Donald Trump made a startling claim that he spoke to PM Modi about the India-China border issue and PM Modi is 'not in a good mood'.

New Delhi: Government sources have refuted the claim made by Donald Trump in Washington that he spoke to PM Modi over India's ongoing border row with China in Eastern Ladakh, as reported by PTI. There has been no recent contact between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, government sources said on Friday. "There has been no recent contact between PM Modi and US President Trump. The last conversation between them was on 4 April 2020, on the subject of Hydroxychloroquine," sources to PTI The Ministry of External Affairs had also made it clear on Thursday that they are directly in touch with China through established mechanisms and diplomatic contacts. President Trump made the claim on Thursday while interacting with journalists in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday, "I can tell you; I did speak to Prime Minister Modi. He is not in a good mood about what is going on with China." Two countries with very powerful militaries. India is not happy and probably China is not happy," the president said when asked if he was worried about the border situation between India and China. He added: "They like me in India. I think they like me in India more than the media likes me in this country. And, I like Modi. I like your prime minister a lot. He is a great gentleman. A day earlier, the president offered to mediate between India and China. Trump on Wednesday said in a tweet that he was "ready, willing and able to mediate" between the two countries. India on Wednesday said it was engaged with China to peacefully resolve the border row, reacting to Trump's offer to mediate between the two Asian giants.
