India Logged 511 JN.1 Covid-19 Variant Cases Till Jan 2 In 11 States, Max In Karnataka: Report
On Wednesday (Jan 3), the country reported 602 new Covid cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours. With the new additions, the active caseload currently stands at 4,440.
India has reported a total of 511 cases of JN.1 variant till January 2, from 11 states, reported ANI citing sources. Of these, a maximum of 199 cases were logged in Karnataka, 148 from Kerala, 47 from Goa, 36 from Gujarat, 32 from Maharashtra., 26 from Tamil Nadu, 15 from Delhi, 4 from Rajasthan, 2 from Telangana and one each from Odisha and Haryana, the report added.

On Tuesday, India recorded 573 fresh cases of Covid-19. The number of daily cases had dropped to double digits until December 5, but cases have again gone up after the emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions. According to INSACOG's data, 279 Covid cases recorded in the country in December had the presence of JN.1, while 33 such cases were detected in November.
Amid this, Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil on Tuesday said people above 60 years and those with comorbidities can get vaccinated for Covid-19 from January 3 onwards at the district hospitals, reported PTI. He underlined that there was no need to panic and urged people to take precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus.
