India Crosses 17 Lakh Mark Of Covid-19 Cases In Just 2 Days, Records 853 Deaths In Last 24 Hrs
Of 17,50,724 cases, 5,67,730 are active cases, while 11,45,630 have been cured. The recovery rate is at 65.44% while the fatality rate stands at 2.13%
Coronavirus: India jumps from 16 lakh Covid infections to 17 lakhs in just 2 days. With nearly 55,000 new cases (54,736), the number of confirmed infections in India crossed the 17-lakh mark on Sunday. The country recorded a jump of over 1.5 lakh cases in the past three days. As many as 853 casualties took place in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 37,364. Of the 17,50,724 cases, 5,67,730 are active cases, while 11,45,630 have been cured.

322 deaths, 9,601 new cases in Maharashtra
Maharashtra recorded 9,601 new COVID-19 cases and 322 deaths today, taking total cases in the state to 4,31,719 and toll to 15, 316, reports ANI quoting the state health department. As many as 2,66,883 persons have recovered so far and the number of active cases stands at 1,49,214 out of which 46,345 cases are in Pune, it said.
Delhi's containment zones down to 496
The number of COVID-19 containment zones has come down to 496 in Delhi after an extensive review by the AAP government, providing relief to thousands of people living in such restricted areas, reports PTI. A review meeting was held by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday on the status of the containment zones in the national capital. "The number of containment zones in Delhi scaled down from 715 on 27 July to 496 on 31 July. "This move will bring significant relief to residents of some red zones in the city that have been contained for months, a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said."Andhra Pradesh: Country's New Hotspot
Andhra Pradesh saw its Coronavirus numbers increase by almost nine times in July, while in Karnataka the number of infected people rose by more than seven times during this period. Andhra Pradesh which is at the third spot in India in the line of most Covid infections, recorded 9276 cases in the last 24 hours which is close to Maharahstra tally. The total number of infected cases in the state now stands at 1,50,209 while 1407 have succumbed to the virus. The World Health Organisation, has meanwhile, said that the said it expects the Covid-19 pandemic to be of “lengthy duration” and that it remains “a public health emergency of international concern.” “The pandemic is a once-in-a-century health crisis, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was quoted as telling panel. Globally, there are nearly 18 million infections, while over 6.84 lakh people have succumbed to COVID-19.
