India Calls For Restrain By All Sides Amid Rising Tensions In West Asia

The Ministry of External Affairs said it is important that the conflict doesn't take a wider regional dimension and urged that all issues be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy.

In its first reaction, India on Wednesday called for restraint by all sides amid a fresh escalation of tensions in West Asia. It said the conflict must not take a wider regional dimension. New Delhi's comments came a day after Iran fired around 200 missiles into Israel in response to Israel's killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders of the militant outfit.

India said it is deeply concerned at the escalation of the situation.

"We are deeply concerned at the escalation of the security situation in West Asia and reiterate our call for restraint by all concerned and protection of civilians," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. It is important that the conflict doesn't take a wider regional dimension and we urge that all issues be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy, MEA added.

Fierce Urgency For Peace And Dialogue: Congress

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said the "world's conscience needs to be reawakened" by the forces of reconciliation amid escalating hostilities in West Asia. "Thanks to an initiative taken by the Congress-led UPA Government, since 2007 the United Nations observes October 2nd as the International Day of Non-Violence," he said in a post on X.

"This is imposing an unacceptable humanitarian price on thousands upon thousands of innocent men, women and children. There is a fierce urgency for peace and dialogue in the region that is now engulfed by a deepening cycle of violence and counter-violence, he said. The world's conscience seems to have been dulled by the forces of revenge. It needs to be reawakened by the forces of reconciliation," Ramesh said.

Kejriwal Urges Govt To Bring Back Indians Stuck In Iran & Israel

AAP National Convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal requested the Centre to make arrangements to bring back Indians living in the affected areas.

"A war-like situation has arisen between Israel and Iran. Many Indian families are worried because their family members are working in these countries. I humbly request the Indian government to make arrangements to bring back all the Indians living there who want to return, in mission mode as soon as possible," he wrote on X.
"I hope that the situation in these countries will improve soon and peace will be established in the world," Kejriwal added.
