'Mere Pyaare Parivar Janon': PM Modi Sharpens Attack On Dynastic Politics, Says 'Countrymen My Family'

Addressing the nation on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sharpened his attack on dynastic politics and said the citizens of the country were his family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the country's 77th Independence Day addressed the citizens as 'mere pyaare parivar janon' as he sharpened his attack on dynastic politics and called for a collective fight against corruption, nepotism and appeasement. He said the citizens of the country awere his family and that he has resolved to work toward their aspirations and dreams.

In his message to the citizens, he said, "I come from you, I live for you, I dream for you and even if I sweat, it is for you, I don't do this not because you have given me a responsibilty but  it is because you are my family and I can't see you unhappy or see your dreams being shattered. I want your dreams to come true and I have taken resolved to be with you."

Upping the ante against dynastic politics, the Prime Minister said said, "Today, 'parivarvaad' and appeasement has destroyed our country. How can a political party have only one family in charge? For them their life mantra is- party of the family, by the family and for the family."

He said It was our country's misfortune that it has been plagued by political parties which have worked on principle of - of the family, for the family and by the family. "Appeasement policies of some parties had doomed the development of the country. Corruption should not be tolerated. It is our duty now to end all this," he said.

"It is Modi's life-long commitment to keep fighting against corruption...My government weeded out 10 crore fake beneficiaries of welfare schemes, seizure of ill-gotten assets rose by 20 times," he said.

However, Oppositon leaders expressed disappointment over his speech saying he used the platform to make political comments

Congress leader Salman Khurshid reacted to the Prime Ministers remarks on dynastic politics, and said, "It's a matter of great sadness if a leader or PM doesn't know the difference between a national day and a political event."

NCP leader Supriya Sule said, "He (PM Modi) spoke about corruption, dynasty but dynasty is part of every party. I remember Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement in the Parliament where he said that if you point one figure at someone the three other three fingers are pointing towards yourself...Manipur needs love, care, compassion & empathy."
