No Respite From Heatwave For Northwest India As IMD Extends Warning Till May 18

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in some pockets of West Rajasthan and isolated pockets of UP, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh on May 17.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the Northwestern states in India will experience heatwaves beginning from May 16. The regions that are likely to reel under the heat include West Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Haryana. 

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in some pockets of West Rajasthan, while heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of UP, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Delhi on May 17.

Punjab, South Haryana, pockets of West Rajasthan, will experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions on may 18, while heatwave conditions will likely affect isolated pockets of East Rajasthan, UP,MP and Bihar on 18th May, IMD said.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Severe Heat Wave In Rajasthan

IMD Director, Radheshyam Sharma said that the weather department has issued an orange alert for severe heat wave in Rajasthan.

"Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota are expected to experience strong winds, lightening, normal rain with thunderstorm. Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur are expected to experience dry spell in next 5 days. After 16 May, most of the areas will be experiencing dry spell and 2-4 degrees Celsius increase in temperature," Sharma stated.

The IMD Director further said: "Heatwave will start from May 16. On May 17-18, in western Rajasthan, there are chances of severe heatwave with temperature of 45-46 degrees Celsius. Jaipur has been experiencing temperature of 41-42 degrees Celsius. The temperature may increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days."

"For May 17 and May 18, we have issued a heatwave alert for areas of Gwailor and Chambal. So, after two days, a rise in temperature is expected across the state," says Prakash Dhawale, Meteorologist at Regional Meteorology Office Bhopal, on weather forecast for Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, a few areas of Dewas, Khandwa, Khargone, and Harda are expected to have some rainfall and cloudy weather, Prakash Dhawale, Meteorologist at Regional Meteorology Office Bhopal told news agency PTI.
