IMD Forecasts Rain, Gusty Winds In Delhi Today; Bihar, Bengal, Telangana To Reel Under Heatwave

According to IMD, Delhi will likely receive light rain with thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds today.

Delhi and adjoining aras of NCR witnessed a brief respite from heat due to a sudden change in weather on Friday, with gusty winds and light rain during the day and drizzling in some parts during the evening. The national capital can expect a similar weather on Saturday too, as the India Meteorological Department has forecasted that Delhi will likely receive light rain with thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds today.

IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph for Saturday.

"Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds likely over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during April 27-28," IMD stated in its report.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will settle around 39 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively, IMD said.

Although the rain did bring down the temperature briefly, Delhi recorded its hottest day this summer, with the mercury crossing 40 degrees Celsius for the first time on April 26, despite the weather change.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius which was a notch above the season's average, IMD said.

Previously, the highest temperature was recorded in Delhi stood at 39.4 degrees Celsius on April 20.

The relative humidity during the day on Friday oscillated between 16 per cent and 66 per cent, the weather department said.

IMD Predicts Heatwave In Various Parts Of India

While some parts of the country are witnessing brief relief due to light rainfall, parts of India are presently reeling under the heatwave conditions. IMD has predicted that heatwave conditions will likely continue for the next five days in Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Many places over the Gangetic West Bengal, in Odisha and in isolated pockets over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are very likely to witness heat wave to severe heat wave conditions during the next 5 days, the IMD's latest bulletin read.

The weather department has also forecasted that heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, East Uttar Pradesh will likely prevail during the next 5 days.

"Kerala & Mahe during 26-28; Konkan during 27-29 and West Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during 28-30," IMD stated in its bulletin.
