3 Assam Rifles Personnel Dead, 5 Injured In IED Blast By Terrorist In Manipur; PLA involved
3 personnel from Assam Rifles lost their lives in an IED blast carried by the separatist group People's Liberation Army in Manipur.
New Delhi: 3 personnel from 4 Assam Rifles unit lost their lives and 5 were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Manipur. According to a report by ANI, the security forces were ambushed by the separatist group People's Liberation Army. The incident occurred in the Chandel district of Manipur bordering Myanmar.

The report says that the terrorist first carried out the blast and then later open fired at the security forces. The unit is now awaiting additional reinforcements.
The People's Liberation Army Manipur was founded by the leftist ideologue Nameirakpam Bisheshwar Singh in 1978. The group is fighting for a separate independent socialist state of Manipur. The group specialises in guerrilla warfare and has attacked Indian armed forces and forces and paramilitary several times before. In the 80s insurgency activity of the group reduced due to the death of prominent group leader President Thoudam Kunjabehari in 1982 and arrest of the founder Bisheshwar Singh in 1981.
Earlier this year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed chargesheet against six PLA terrorists for the attack on an Assam Rifles personnel during the road-opening party of the 4th Assam Rifles at Chamol-Sajir Tampak road in the Chandel district of Manipur on 15 November 2017.
