Holi Weather Forecast: Mumbai, Gujarat, Jharkhand To Get Rains Over Next Two Days. Check Details

Several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, are likely to experience thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.

New Delhi: Over the next few days until Holi, there are likely to rain in several parts of central and western India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted isolated rain and thunderstorm activity until March 7 over central and adjacent parts of West India.

An induced circulation lies over north Gujarat and adjacent southwest Rajasthan in lower tropospheric levels, and the Western Disturbance is a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies that runs roughly along Longitude 66°E to the north of Latitude 23°N. At lower tropospheric levels, a trough extends from the south of Konkan to the north of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra

An official with the India Meteorological Department stated on Monday that over the next two days, several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, are likely to experience thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.

He said that a trough that runs from south Konkan to central Chhattisgarh at lower tropospheric levels is the cause of this rainstorm.

"Under these influences, isolated light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorm is very likely over central India during March 6-8, over Maharashtra from March 6-9 and over Rajasthan and Gujarat on March 6-7," he said, quoted PTI.

An IMD official stated that the rains occur at a time when average maximum temperatures have been on the higher side throughout February, reaching 29.5 degrees Celsius, the highest since 2016.

Gujarat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday that parts of Gujarat are likely to see precipitation that is not typical for the region over the next four days.

According to the Ahmedabad center of the IMD, areas in north and south Gujarat are likely to receive light rainfall over the next four days, and some districts in the state received light rain on Saturday.

Additionally, isolated locations in the districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad were forecast to experience a light thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour.

According to the IMD, a 1.5-kilometer-high induced cyclonic circulation that had been centered over north Gujarat and the region surrounding it had shifted toward north Gujarat and southwest Rajasthan.

Jharkhand

Jharkhand may experience scattered rain starting on Tuesday after a prolonged period of dry weather, said IMD.

It stated that the pre-monsoon showers—that is, precipitation received between March and May—will continue until March 10.

Abhishek Anand, in charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said that on March 8, when the state celebrates Holi, there may be thundershowers and wind gusts of 30-40 kmph in some areas.

In the past three months, Jharkhand has had no rain at all.

"Pre-monsoon system is active over Jharkhand, due to which the state might receive spells of scattered rain coupled with lightning till March 10. On March 7, light rainfall is likely over the western parts of the state," he said.

"On March 8, scattered thundershowers are expected in most parts of the state. Surface wind gusting at 30-40 kmph is also likely in some pockets on that day. However, this may not dampen Holi spirits," he said.

He said that the northeast, southern, and central parts of the state could see rain on March 9 and 10, and that the showers could drop the temperature by one to two degrees Celsius.
