PM Modi On 2-Day Visit To Northeast States From Today, To Attend Oath-Taking Ceremonies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to the North East from Tuesday to attend the oath-taking ceremonies of new governments in three states of the region – Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya, and will also take part in a cabinet meeting of the Assam government, news agency PTI reported.
Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said Monday that Modi will attend the cabinet meeting during his overnight stay in Assam.
Modi in Meghalaya
Mahanta, while addressing a press conference after a cabinet meeting, said Modi will arrive at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 10 am on March 7, and will fly to Meghalaya directly from Assam.
Coalitions backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have secured the majority of the seats in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. The election results were declared on March 2, 2023. The new governments of the states will take their oaths this week.
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance led by the National People's Party (NPP) has 32 MLAs. The coalition is led by Conrad Sangma, and will form the government for the second consecutive term in the state. The BJP is an ally of the MDA, and has been allotted a berth in the new ministry, a PTI report said.
NPP has won 26 out of a total of 60 seats. It will take eight cabinet berths, BJP will get a single berth, United Democratic Party (UDP) will get two berths, and Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) will get one berth.
Modi in Nagaland
Modi, after attending the swearing-in ceremony in Shillong, Meghalaya, will leave for Kohima. There, Modi will attend the oath-taking programme of the new Nagaland government, according to Mahanta.
The pre-poll alliance of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP in Nagaland had secured a total of 37 seats out of 60 seats.
Modi in Guwahati
Modi will return to Guwahati airport at 5 pm on Tuesday, and meet the Assam Cabinet at the State Guest House at 6:45 pm IST, Mahanta said.
At 9:40 am on March 8, Modi will fly to Agartala, the capital of Tripura, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of that state. From there, he will return to New Delhi.
While specific details on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting with Modi are not known, it is expected that the working of all departments will be discussed, and the implementation of the central government's schemes will be reviewed, Mahanta said.
The Assam governor’s customary speech will be made on the first day of the Budget Session on Friday, March 10.
