Heavy Rainfall Predicted In Odisha, West Bengal On Friday As Coast Guards Issue Warning To Fishermen
The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal since it has intensified into a depression, has triggered rainfall in several parts of Odisha, even as the weather office forecast more downpour coupled with squally winds.
New Delhi: Indian Coast Guard on Thursday issued warning to the fishermen and merchant vessels requesting them to move to the nearest harbor. The warning was issued after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observed a low-pressure area which is developing over West Central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression in next 24 hours that could result in adverse weather conditions. The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal since it has intensified into a depression, has triggered rainfall in several parts of Odisha, even as the weather office forecast more downpour coupled with squally winds over the next two days amid the Durga Puja celebrations.
A well-marked Low-Pressure Area (LOPAR) over northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts will intensify into a depression in the next 12 hours, the IMD said.
The Regional Meteorological Centre issued a Red Warning for four districts of Odisha Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore in view of the depression over northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal. The depression over the north-west and the west-central Bay of Bengal, about 180 km south-south-east of Paradip, is likely to cross the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast as a deep depression between Sagar Island and Khepupara by October 23 afternoon. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in coastal districts of Odisha. The agency further predicts squally winds reaching 45-65 kmph off the coast of Odisha and over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Central Bay of Bengal on October 22”, said Habibur Rahman Biswas Director, regional IMD centre. ALSO READ | PM Modi To Up BJP's Campaigning Armada In Bihar From Oct 23, To Address 3 Rallies On First Day Adding to his statement Biswas further stated, “For October 23, the IMD has predicted winds speed reaching 50-60 kmph to 70 kmph along and off the north Odisha coast and over North Bay of Bengal. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay Bengal till the morning of October 24”. The depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to run parallel off the Odisha coast, before crossing West Bengal and Bangladesh coast as a deep depression by the afternoon of October 23, as per All India Radio. Meanwhile, in a special mid-day bulletin the IMD issued red, blue and orange warnings for different districts.
