Gandhinagar Civic Body 'Postpones' Plan To Name Road After PM Modi's Mother
Hiraba Modi, who lives with PM Modi's younger brother at Raysan village on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, will turn 100-year-old on June 18.
Gujarat's Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation on Thursday "postponed" its plan to name a road in the state capital after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraba Modi, PTI reported. Gandhinagar Mayor Hitesh Makwana, in an official release, on Wednesday announced that the civic body decided to name a road in Raysan village as "Pujya Hiraba Marg".
However, in a statement on Thursday, the GMC said the naming of the road had been put off. "The road can not be named at present as the GMC has not yet formulated a policy about the naming of city roads," the civic body said.
"This proposal now stands postponed and will be considered in the future when a policy is formulated," said the statement.
Hiraba, who lives with PM Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan village on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, will turn 100-year-old on June 18.
In its earlier statement, the civic body said it had decided to name an 80 metre road from Raysan Petrol pump after PM Modi's mother for the purpose of keeping the "name of Hiraba alive forever and for future generations to learn the lessons of renunciation, penance, service and conscientiousness from it".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat from June 17, will meet his mother to seek her blessings as she enters 100th year of her life.
During his visit, PM Modi inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 21,000 crore. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped temple of Shree Kalika Mata at Pavagadh Hill on June 18, followed by his visit to Virasat Van.
He will also participate in Gujarat Gaurav Abhiyan at Vadodara, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 21,000 crore.
