Govt likely to press for regular hearings on Ram Temple case in SC starting next month

The last-anticipated government push in the SC for the Ram temple is also meant to meet the demands of the Hindu “sant samaj” that has led the demand

New Delhi: After a massive defeat in Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janta Party wants to leave no stone-unturned for 2019 Lok Sabha elections; and as per sources the government is likely to press for regular hearings on the Ram Temple issue on the grounds that non-resolution of the dispute is unfair to all parties and counter-productive to amity between communities. As per the government sources, the arguments being considered include pointing out that the Supreme Court has defined the dispute as one about the title and evidence on both sides could now be expeditiously considered. The last-anticipated government push in the SC for the Ram temple is also meant to meet the demands of the Hindu “sant samaj” that has led the demand. Speaking on the issue, BJP Chief Amit Shah last week said “The BJP clearly states that we want to build a Ram temple at the exact spot and it is the demand of the nation. The case was pending before the SC much before 2014. Lawyers of both the Centre and UP government requested the court to give priority to the case”. The Supreme Court had earlier deferred the hearing in the case till January 2019, saying that there is no need for urgent hearing in the case.
