Government yet to initiate Lalit Modi's extradition process: V.K. Singh

New Delhi:  Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) V.K. Singh on Thursday informed the Parliament that the government has not yet initiated any proceedings for the extradition of Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi. Insisting that the government has not yet received request regarding Lalit Modi's extradition, Singh said that the MEA would initiate the process as soon as they received the request. "The extradition request in respect to the Lalit Modi is yet to be received by the Ministry of External Affairs from the concerned law enforcement agencies in India. The ministry would take appropriate steps once the request is received," Singh said. 50-year-old Lalit Modi, who was also the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association, has been facing money laundering charges over his involvement in IPL scam and is currently in self-imposed exile in the UK. The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case against Lalit Modi is based on a criminal complaint filed by the BCCI in 2010, accusing him of misappropriating funds during his tenure as the IPL chief from 2008-2010.
