Prime Minister Modi announced the scrapping of decentralised policy rolled out on May 1 and said the Centre will account for procurement of 75% of Covid-19 vaccines from the manufacturers and subsequently provide these free to the states for inoculation.

He said the states will be informed about the number of doses they will be getting a week before the supply.

“There shouldn't be differences and debates over vaccines,” he added.

Below are the details about the free vaccination drive:

  • All citizens above 18 years of age can get free vaccination at the government facilities from June 21.
  • All vaccination centers, government and private, would provide onsite registration facilities for both individuals and groups.
  • The people need not pre-register themselves on CoWin or Aarogya Setu app.
  • The states may avail the facilities of common service centres and call centres to help the people book slots for vaccination.
  • The Centre will buy 75 percent of the total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers and give it to the state governments for free.
  • The Centre will also bear the responsibility of 25 percent of the work related to vaccination with the states.
