New Delhi: Free Covid-19 vaccination drive for population above 18 years of age will begin in the country from Monday.

Addressing the nation on June 7, the Prime Minister said that Centre would take the full responsibility of the procurement of coronavirus vaccines for the states.

Prime Minister Modi announced the scrapping of decentralised policy rolled out on May 1 and said the Centre will account for procurement of 75% of Covid-19 vaccines from the manufacturers and subsequently provide these free to the states for inoculation.
He said the states will be informed about the number of doses they will be getting a week before the supply.
“There shouldn't be differences and debates over vaccines,” he added.
Below are the details about the free vaccination drive:
- All citizens above 18 years of age can get free vaccination at the government facilities from June 21.
- All vaccination centers, government and private, would provide onsite registration facilities for both individuals and groups.
- The people need not pre-register themselves on CoWin or Aarogya Setu app.
- The states may avail the facilities of common service centres and call centres to help the people book slots for vaccination.
- The Centre will buy 75 percent of the total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers and give it to the state governments for free.
- The Centre will also bear the responsibility of 25 percent of the work related to vaccination with the states.
