New Delhi: Meghalaya’s former finance minister Aubrey Herbert Scott Lyngdoh died of old age in Shillong, family sources told news agency PTI. Lyngdoh, fondly known as Bah Scott, served as an MLA for two terms from Jaiaw Constituency.

He was 93 years old.

He is survived by his wife and four children.

In the 1950’s and 1960, Scott was an officer of the erstwhile cadre of IFAS (Indian Frontier Administrative Service), and served with distinction a some of the remote places of the Northeast, according to the The Shillong Times.

Scott was also a former bureaucrat and had served as chief secretary of Mizoram. After retiring in 1987, he joined electoral politics and represented Jaiaw constituency in Shillong as an MLA in 1993 and again in 2003.

Meanwhile, National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K Sangma was sworn in as the Chief Ministers of Meghalaya on Wednesday.

Sangma, who became the Chief Minister of the northeastern state for the second time in a row, said his focus will be on sectors that can provide large-scale employment.

“We are exploring many options apart from improving infrastructure, road, power and water connectivity… We are prioritising our focus on areas and sectors where we can provide large-scale employment to people,” Sangma told PTI after taking the oath.

The NPP became the single-largest party winning 26 seats in the recently held election. The United Democratic Party (UDP) bagged 11 seats while the BJP, Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP), and the People's Democratic Front (PDF) got two seats each. Besides them, two Independent members also extended support to Sangma.

The ruling coalition on Monday decided that it would be called the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0 since its partners are almost the same as the previous one.
