This was the first encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kashmir since July 27, the officials said.

Baramulla encounter:  A Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and a policeman were on Wednesday killed while a sub-inspector was injured in an encounter with ultras in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The encounter, which began on Tuesday, has ended with the killing of a militant and a special police officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, a police official said. An SPO of Jammu and Kashmir police also died while another cop was injured in an encounter with terrorists in Baramulla district on Tuesday night. The police said the injured sub-inspector, Amardeep Parihar, has been admitted to a hospital for treatment. The official said the slain militant has been identified as Momin Gojri, a resident of Baramulla. "Encounter is over. One terrorist killed. Identity being ascertained. Arms and ammunition recovered. Our colleague SPO Billal attained martyrdom. SI Amardeep Parihar injured in the incident is being treated at Army Hospital," stated the police in an earlier tweet. This was the first encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kashmir since July 27, the officials said. Security agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir police, were fighting the militants in the encounter. Arms and ammunition were also recovered after the encounter was over. Watch | J&K: Terrorist Gunned Down In First Encounter Post Revocation Of Article 370 The area was cordoned off for the public as soon as the gunfight began. Ever since the Union government abrogated special category status to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution, this is the first encounter between security forces and militants in the Valley. As per sources around 2-3 terrorists were engaged in a gunfight as the joint operation between the Army, Jammu and Kashmir police and other security agencies was launched. Baramullah is located around 54 km from Srinagar. Kashmir Valley has been by and large peaceful barring stray incidents of stone-pelting and protests since August 5. The number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan across the LoC have increased, however, over the past week after a lull in the first fortnight of August.
